The annual Great American Cleanup is ready to get off to a strong start this year with national and local support systems working together to design a fun, effective community work day program. The Community Work Day Program, which is launched every year in March across the nation, takes advantage of the good will of local residents and helps organize them to beautify their community.
Their are two main components that make this program such a success (estimated 3 million volunteers). First of all, the individuals who are inspired by the landslide of positive work to help, and the local businesses that lend a hand to support those volunteers. “In the spirit of laulima – many hands working together, we look forward to several exciting events during the GAC made possible by these partnerships,” said Rhiannon Chandler, Executive Director of CWD, “We’re grateful for our sponsors that allow us to better serve the communities of Maui Nui. We all have a part in creating a healthy environment.”
Some of the local big kahunas that are taking the energy, time, and resources to be a part of this event are: Maui Land and Pineapple, which lent the use of a flatbed truck (After all, there are a lot less pineapples lately to haul, so it was probably collecting dust by a warehouse somewhere.)
American Corp National Civilian Community Corps will provide needed hands for stream and beach cleanups. Boeing Charitable Trust is also featured as a sponsor.

Hotel Hana-Maui and Maui Tow & Transport Co., CWD will collect appliances, scrap metal, tires, and vehicle batteries from Hana from May 24th-29th.
